Are you new to lithotherapy? Have you bought crystals but don't know how to take care of them and optimize their benefits? Have you heard of stone purification and recharging, but you don't know what it is? Don't panic, this article is here to guide you and provide answers to all your questions!
When you are new to lithotherapy, the terms can be complicated to assimilate. This discipline requires certain basics before getting started, particularly knowledge of its stones. Indeed, each of them has its own energy, its own physical particularities which makes it unique. This is why this comprehensive article will first allow you to differentiate between purification and recharging of stones, while explaining to you concretely what they consist of. Then, you will discover different methods of purification and recharging of crystals that exist, depending on the specificities and compositions of each. With all this information, you will in principle be able to take care of your stones, without problem!
Purify your lithotherapy stones
Purifying your crystals, what exactly is it?
When you buy or are given a stone, it is important to start by purifying it. For what ? Because your stone accumulates energies (good and bad) when it is handled or left in a room for a certain time. It is therefore important to take the time to completely discharge it of these energies, in order to purify it. Proceed with this step regularly, so that your stones continue to work optimally.
There are several purification methods. You must choose the one that suits your stones because some are more fragile than others. This means that they can be damaged or deteriorate upon contact with certain materials, such as water for example. So be sure to use the means of purification best suited to their composition.
The different methods of purifying lithotherapy stones
Purification of crystals by fumigation
One of the simplest ways to purify lithotherapy stones is fumigation. Simply place your stone for a few seconds in the released smoke to purify it completely and easily. The advantage of this technique is that it is suitable for any mineral, since it does not risk damaging or scratching its surface! For fumigation, you can use incense, such as frankincense which is particularly effective. All you have to do is turn it on for a few seconds and then turn it off to enjoy its purifying smoke.
If you don’t like incense, you can turn to equally effective smudging sticks such as Palo Santo, White Sage, or even make your own with local plants (thyme, rosemary, sage, lavender…). They are used in the same way as incense. Just light the tip of the stick, wait a few seconds, then extinguish it to enjoy its smoke. Remember to be cautious when handling one, as there is always a risk of fire. So make sure to place your smudging stick on a plate, bowl, or any other stable object that is fireproof during its use.
Purification of crystals by water
Another very simple method is to purify your lithotherapy stones with water. You generally just need to run your crystal under water for a few seconds or completely immerse it in water for a few hours, or even overnight. You can use tap water, but be careful that it is not too hard, otherwise it could damage your stone! The ideal is to use spring water. Once your crystal has been purified, all you have to do is dry it with a soft cloth to avoid scratching it.
Attention ! Certain lithotherapy minerals do not tolerate water, so check their characteristics carefully before using this purification method!
Here are some examples of prohibited stones:
- Azurite ;
- Celestine;
- Malachite ;
- Sand rose;
- Selenite.
Purification of crystals with salt
Finally, the last purification method consists of purifying your lithotherapy stones with salt. Indeed, the latter has purifying properties and works in the same way as water: simply immerse your crystals in a bowl of coarse salt for several hours or overnight. Choose unrefined salt, such as Guérande salt or coarse salt.
Know that the salt you use for purification will only be valid once, since it will have absorbed bad energies!
Be careful, like purification with water, that with salt may be banned for certain minerals which could deteriorate upon contact. Here are some examples:
- Amazonite ;
- Chrysocolle ;
- Hematite;
- Labradorite;
- Lapis lazuli ;
- Obsidian;
- Rhodocrosite ;
- Turquoise.
Proceed to recharge your lithotherapy crystals
Recharging your stones, how does it work?
Once your lithotherapy crystals are purified of all energy, it is time to recharge them. This step allows them to regain their full power and increase their properties. As with purification, there are several methods of recharging and you must be careful to respect the stones. Indeed, each of them is unique and has its own sensitivities. Some are, for example, more fragile than others, depending on their appearance and constitution. So find out carefully about the minerals of your choice before purchasing them!
Below, we share with you 4 ways to recharge your crystals with our advice and examples of lithotherapy stones that may suit each of them.
The different methods of recharging lithotherapy stones
Recharge your crystals with the rays of the sun
The sun's rays are very powerful and allow you to recharge your stones easily! To do this, simply place them on a windowsill, in full sun, for a few hours.
Note that this method of recharging is not recommended for all lithotherapy stones. Some cannot tolerate the sun at all and risk becoming tarnished, damaged and losing their energy. This is the case, for example, with Amethyst!
Here are some examples of minerals that can be recharged in the sun:
- Aventurine;
- Citrine ;
- Carnelian;
- Rock crystal;
- Red jasper;
- Tiger's Eye;
- Sunstone;
- Pyrite ;
- Smoky quartz.
Recharge your crystals under the light of the full moon
The moon is also a good way to recharge your stones. Indeed, its light is just as powerful as that of the sun, but it has the particularity of being much softer! It is therefore perfect for recharging more sensitive minerals, especially during the Full Moon phase where energy is at its peak.
To recharge your lithotherapy crystals, all you need to do, as with the previous method, is to place them on your windowsill during a Full Moon night. The next day they will be fully charged and ready to use!
Here are some examples of stones that can be recharged at the Full Moon:
- Amethyst;
- Chrysocolle ;
- Fluorite ;
- Lapis-lazuli ;
- Obsidian;
- Moonstone;
- Sodalite.
Recharge your crystals with a geode or a quartz cluster
Geodes are very useful for recharging crystals, since they hold strong energy that can be transmitted to the stones. To do this, simply place your stone on the geode, or between the two parts of the geode for a few hours. The advantage with this method is that all crystals can be recharged, from the most fragile to the most robust!
For quartz clusters, it works somewhat the same way. Their powerful energy allows you to recharge all your stones, whatever their properties and constitution. Just drop them near the pile or on it if you can, for a few hours.
Recharge your crystals with a flower of life
Finally, the last method that we are going to discuss is the flower of life. This is a symmetrical rosette which appears in the composition of a certain number of elements present on Earth. This symbol is imbued with great energy and is therefore perfect for recharging your lithotherapy stones. To use the flower of life, nothing could be simpler: you just have to place your crystals on it for several hours, in the same way as geodes and clusters!
You now know the most common ways to purify and recharge your lithotherapy crystals! When acquiring your new stones, remember to find out about their specificities in order to purify and recharge them without risking damaging them. Then, you are free to use your crystals as you wish!
